Celebrating Being Fit and Fabulous–at ANY Age!
We had a great clinic in Connecticut! Now I’m trying to get back into a routine after getting home in the wee hours of Wednesday morning!
I’m getting ready for the Ft. Wayne Area Home Schools (FWAHS) Annual Resource Expo next weekend, so if you’re planning on going, please stop by and say hello! I’ll have some products available for sale at a discount, and you will be able to order at the same discount. Let me know if you’re a blog reader. It will be fun to “meet” in person!
On June 16 I’ll return to Ft. Wayne for a clinic–Celebrating Fifty, Fit and FABULOUS in Ft. Wayne! What are we celebrating? My birthday! I’ll be turning 50 on Father’s Day, and I’m proof positive that you can get better as you get older and be fit and fab at any age! I hope you’ll sign up and help me celebrate my special weekend!
I actually was born on Father’s Day–Mom used to tease Dad that I was his present! I can remember celebrating together, especially when my birthday hit Father’s Day. The last time my birthday fell on Father’s Day was 2007, and it was our last time to celebrate together. It’s a sweet time with special memories, and now I’m going to make new memories with some of my most favorite people–T-Tappers!
There’s something for everyone: a MORE session in the morning and a Total Workout (TWO) session in the afternoon. Over lunchtime I’ll be sharing about loving your skin so you can feel fabulous on the outside, too! 😉
I’ll have some fun prizes to give away, too! Lots of tweaks and tips, lots of laughter and FUN!!!
I hope you’ll join the celebration and learn how you can sail into the next decade of your life improving your energy and health–feeling better than you ever dreamed!
See you there!
Connect with Me in Connecticut!
Tomorrow is the clinic! Still a few spots left to join us in the afternoon session!
Here are the details!
We’re going to have a great time–hope you can join us!
The Power of “Not-Free Kickouts”!
We had a great time at the Mansfield OH clinic last Saturday! Many thanks to Hannah C. for inviting me out there, helping do the legwork on that end and providing wonderful hospitality for my daughters and me!
I thought I’d share something that happened–and show you the incredible power of what I call “not-free kickouts”!
We arrived in Mansfield last Friday late afternoon. I was feeling fine until just before bed, but chalked it up to nerves (both classes on Saturday were maxed out!). On into the night, though, I realized I was truly sick! :p I think it was a mix of some nerves (happy nerves, but nerves just the same!), having eaten fast food that didn’t set well and a little bit of hormonal stuff going on.
Suffice it to say I didn’t get to sleep until 2 a.m.–and had to get up at 6!
I was not even able to fully stand up for quite awhile. I joked that here I would be, the trainer, all hunched over telling everyone to get their ribs up! LOL!
Thankfully by the time the clinic actually started, I was feeling much better! (Texted several family and friends and asked them to please pray!)
I already knew the great power of these “not-free kickouts” from my Indiana clinic on March 31. But this time I added being really sick and sleep-deprived to the mix! Would they still work?
They sure did!
I could not believe how good I felt by noon, and by the end of the day I felt fantastic! I shared with the ladies in the afternoon session about it, and one of my “forum friends” said later she never would have guessed that I had been sick and sleep-deprived if I hadn’t told them!
So just what are “not-free kickouts”?!
It is kicking out with purpose–focus and intention. Instead of just kicking, kick like you are kicking a ball–not necessarily trying to score a goal in soccer, but kicking with purpose! Keep your core curled and ribs up, really reach out and jazz those hands while you’re kicking out. Teresa teaches a variation of this on the new Healthy Hormones: Brain=-Body Fitness dvd. This is the Full Public Television Documentary, which includes interviews from several T-Tappers as well as Mary Shomon and Teresa Tapp. At the end is a 10 minute sequence of exercises from Senior Fit, and in that 10 minute sequence she shows the “not-free kickouts”! (She’s even tweaked them more since that dvd was made!)
This is a great dvd to show to friends and family who wonder what T-Tapp is–you have women of all ages and walks of life as well as a few men sharing how T-Tapp improved their lives!
Click here for more info and to purchase. If for nothing other than the 10 minute sequence and “not-free kickouts” (as well as the clap-pulls!), it would be worth every penny!
Believe me when I say that these little changes and tweaks made the difference between barely surviving and thriving for me last Saturday! Just think what they’ll do for your workouts!
Deep Discount Tuesday! A Little Taste of Senior Fit!
WOO-HOO!
A year ago in February, I flew to Ft. Lauderdale, FL to be a part of a PBS documentary on Healthy Hormones: Brain/Body Fitness, which included some moves from Senior Fit. We’ve all been anxiously awaiting Senior Fit to come out (Teresa keeps tweaking it and making it better!), and now you can have a sneak peek–with a special 10 minute sequence of exercises from Senior Fit!
Here is the Sizzle Reel promoting this PBS documentary, and you might check your local PBS stations to see if they are carrying it. There are several wonderful packages you can purchase while supporting your local PBS station!
For this wonderful little “taste” of Senior Fit, click HERE and you will not only receive the special documentary and 10 minute Senior Fit sequence, but you can also have your choice of LadyBug workout (old label–no difference in content, just the label), or Broom workout, or Warm-Up Workout 2 for FREE!!!
It’s a great deal–don’t let it slip away!
Here’s a post over at Never a Dull Moment about my trip to Ft Lauderdale last year to film this PBS special!
Bootcamp vs. Focus and Intention
A friend on a small homeschooling moms list I’m on (where several of us are T-Tappers) asked how she could be fit like Teresa and me and stay that way without doing bootcamps all the time. I posted the following to the list and thought it might be helpful and encouraging in light of all the adrenaline and excitement running high with the 60 Day Challenge!
Here’s my secret:
I hardly ever do bootcamps!
I remember when I first started T-Tapp, I would hear how you could maintain your goal size on 1-2 workouts per week.
I thought, yeah, well, probably not for me!
I was right. They were wrong.
I now maintain my size on two SHORT workouts per week! 🙂 BUT–with focus on form and intentional movement.
No.Move.Wasted.
There is a danger in 7-14 day bootcamps. You can overdo it. You can lose your focus and intention. You can burn out.
And, like the hare, you can sprint out the chute at 150% only to fizzle out before you’re halfway. That is NOT going to get you anywhere, no matter what facet of life you’re applying that to!
Everyone stand (curled core, ribs lifted, palms forward and KLT) and repeat after me:
“Bootcamps are to establish and/or strengthen neurokinetic connections. A longer bootcamp will not cause me to lose inches faster. I will not get hung up on a longer bootcamp and instead put all my focus and intention into a shorter one.”
Inhale–exhale BIGGER!
Let’s see if I can even remember my “bootcamps”:
February 2007–10 day BWO+ bootcamp, from the book
May 2007–12 day bootcamp of TWO, just through Runner’s Stretch
August 2007–14 day of ALL of TWO (and I lost the least inches, burned myself out, and hardly did TWO for over a year!)
Sometime in late 2007/early 2008–5 day MORE bootcamp
June 2008–5 day Tempo Arms bootcamp
January 2009–4 day MORE Instructional bootcamp (after 7 weeks off after my miscarriage)
February 2010–attempt at a 5 day BWO+ bootcamp but got sick
December 2010–4 day MORE Instructional bootcamp
There you have it. There might be one more 4 day MORE Instructional bootcamp I’m forgetting. My first three were the only ones 10 days or more. And I got better results out of the shorter ones!
Bootcamps are great for jumpstarting, but I think most of us are really, honestly, too busy and have lives that are too full (or too much going on health-wise) to be doing longer bootcamps.
I would seriously advise no one do more than a 7 day bootcamp, and that only if you are not battling health issues. Everyone else go for 4-5 days. PLEASE take two days completely off. PBS only.
Then go with your routine of choice. But be careful to not add too many “target” moves. Rotate them. 10 days target move, 2 days off. 10 days another target move, 2 days off. (Organs in Place and Half Frogs can be “freebies”).
The past year of mentoring for training and becoming a trainer has showed me what Teresa was saying all along–the stronger you get, the more you get out of it, the less you have to do. I held the plie squat 90% of the time. I only did 4 reps 99.9999999% of the time. No singles on Jazz Twist. Splitting TWO up over three classes.
And I still lost and reshaped, even as a less-to-lose! 2+ inches off of each upper thigh in 6 months–as a less-to-lose! I don’t think I lost 2+ inches off up my upper thighs in a YEAR as a more-to-lose!
So instead of killing yourselves with workouts, think LESS IS MORE (Maybe that should be in our daily reminders?!) and spend the time you would have in longer bootcamps, more moves, more workouts concentrating on form and intention instead.
Remember:
Focus on form+
Intention on moves=
GREAT RESULTS!
60 Day Challenge!
T-Tapp is having their annual 60 Day Challenge and YOU can win a spot at the annual Safety Harbor Retreat!
Here is the page with the rules, FAQs, entry forms, etc.
If you’re not familiar with the 60 Day Challenge, it is a two month challenge to use only T-Tapp workouts (walking, treadmill and elliptical are also allowed) to see what just T-Tapp can do for you! There are prizes, even if you don’t win a grand prize in your category! Category winners get to attend the annual Retreat at Safety Harbor, FL! It is a fabulous and fun time, learning about new products and form tweaks, as well as working out with other T-Tappers and with Teresa herself! It’s just an all-around fun and FANTASTIC time!
Click on the link above and read over the rules and FAQs, to see if this might be something you’d like to participate in. It starts April 10 and runs through June 10.
I created some great packages and options if you need a little help and accountability! They’re all at 60 Day Challenge Packages!
This is available even if you want to unofficially do the Challenge to give yourself a push in the right direction on your T-Tapp journey! Summer’s coming and this might be just the ticket to consistency!
I don’t have a magic number in mind, but I may have to set a limit depending on response–I want to be sure to give the individualized help and care you need to meet your goals, so whether you enter the Challenge or not–YOU can be a winner!
Because YOU are WORTH IT!
What a Clinic!
Ten of us had a great time Saturday at my very first T-Tapp Clinic!
I woke up feeling a bit “off” with my adrenals. 🙁 Bad timing for sure!
I prayed and reminded myself that many others were praying for me and sending good thoughts my way, then made sure I had my morning broth with butter and celtic sea salt!
Usually when I feel that way, it takes most of the day before I feel “normal”. Our morning session was BWO+ with some of Senior Fit/Brain Body Fitness factored in (no, Senior Fit is not available on dvd–yet!).
I just have to say, as usual, Teresa is a genius! By half-way through the morning, I was feeling great!
Often we feel if we pause the dvd or kick out extra, we won’t get the max benefit. The added kick outs actually help your stamina.
But what about results?
True confessions–since my certification I’ve only done mainly one class per week. First it was due watching my adrenals, that I didn’t overdo it. Then it was just…..life!
Secondly, I’ve found these horribly addicting mint M&Ms….. !
So my “muffin” was back a bit, partly due to some healing, partly M&Ms and not enough working out! Imagine my delight today to notice the muffin is nearly gone!
Yep! Nearly GONE!
Another attendee said she thought she noticed some slimming in her back and waist area! Many reported that they were hardly sore–another great benefit to Senior Fit tweaks and kicking out more! Even though I was a bit sore, I expected to be more so.
We had a lot of fun, enjoyed a delicious lunch prepared by my daughters (including a gluten-free, honey-sweetened blueberry cheesecake! YUM!) and from the feedback I’ve received so far, many found new muscle awareness. One said she thinks her lats are permanently activated! LOL!
By the end of the day I felt absolutely wonderful! I’m watching to not overdo for now, but it reaffirmed to me the power of T-Tapp!
It was such a joy for me to share the day with special people–T-Tappers!
Thanks to all who came (including 4 from out of state!) and helped make the day GREAT!
Next is Mansfield, OH, 4/21/12!
Let’s Talk Clinics!
Since I have three clinics coming up (and a possible fourth one in June), I thought it might be a good time to talk about what to expect. If you’ve never been to a T-Tapp clinic or workshop before, you may be excited and nervous all at the same time! 😉
First of all, you don’t need a cape or superhero suit to come! I remember before my first clinic wondering if I’d be able to keep up, or if I’d be embarrassed I didn’t have “real” workout wear.
You want to wear what you are comfortable in–but if you work out in your jammies, you might want to get something else for the clinic!
Your clothing should allow for movement without getting in the way to keep you from doing the moves correctly. A trainer needs to be able to see enough of your form to spot you, but your outfit doesn’t have to be skin tight. I sometimes have troubles with capri length pants. If you happen to be at a certain angle I can’t always tell your knees are bent. But we can work around it! I’ve had people just change their angle a bit and then I can see fine.
Being able to see that you are curling your core, pressing that lower back to get rid of the “kidney” bean, as well as ribs up are also important. So keep those things in mind as you select your outfit for a clinic.
As for keeping up–the pace is much slower than the dvd, and a trainer may stop the class to help a particular individual. She may also have you kick out more–if you come to my clinics, you can be sure you will get lots of them! And no one will think badly of you if you just need to sit out some reps or even a few moves. It’s a good time to take notes!
Be sure to bring plenty of water! It’s so important to stay hydrated, especially with the more intense focus. Sometimes there is extra water available, depending on where the clinic is held. But be prepared and bring lots!
A few high energy snacks might be a good idea to bring along, too. I like almonds, and/or walnuts with craisins. Even a piece of fruit, cheese, or whatever food that provides you with some nourishment. Again, you need to keep your body fueled for the time of extra focus!
Of course bring a pen and some paper for taking notes. I like the little notebooks because they’re easier to grab and jot a few things down.
You don’t need to worry about anyone thinking much about how you look doing T-Tapp because they are going to be focused on their own form! LOL!
Seriously, you are there for YOU. If you don’t understand something the trainer says, ask if you could ask a question–it might be a good idea if you can wait until that move (or segment) is done so as to not interrupt the flow. You could say, “When you had us in flat back position, you said, ‘Press the breastbone to the floor’. I’m not sure I understand what I’m supposed to be doing?” The trainer can then demonstrate or perhaps explain it a different way to where it clicks for you. And never feel badly asking questions! Someone else may be thinking the same thing!
Clinics usually offer a mix of the trainer helping your form and you getting some “a-ha’s”. Often it’s just that you’re ready to hear it, but sometimes seeing and hearing it in person helps it click better or cements it more. I have never regretted one penny spent on the clinics I went to. I always learned something!
Shoes–please be sure to have good shoes! Cross-trainers or athletic shoes with good heel support (the shoe should cradle the heel and not be sloppy) and a wide toe box are good. You should be able to “jazz” your toes inside your shoes (jazz toes–think of painting your toenails, and spreading the toes apart). This assures you have supportive shoes that don’t restrict in areas you need a bit of flex. Many T-Tappers like Skechers Energy. These are the ones I like. If you sign up for Shoebuy or Zappos e-mails, you’ll get special discounts or a heads up on sales. Sometimes Kohls carries Skechers.
If you only wear your cross-trainers for working out, they will last you 6 months to a year, depending on how much you do. Now, if you work out daily, those shoes might last you closer to 3-6 months! 🙂
So let’s run through the checklist:
Shoes–check!
Outfit, comfortable but form fitting enough the trainer can spot me–check!
Plenty of water–check!
Snacks–check!
Notebook and pen–check!
Good “Yes I Can!” attitude–check!
Smile–check!
Readiness to have fun–check!
Probably the best thing, besides learning new tips and getting your form tweaked, is making new friends!
Have you been to a clinic? Have any tips to add? Please share!
Or if you have a question I didn’t cover, please feel free to ask!
And if you’re going to be near any of my upcoming clinics (see the Training with Trisch page!), I’d love to have you join me!
Let’s have some T-Tappin’ FUN! 🙂
